When I'm undertaking durational activity in wild spaces there are so many moments that fill me with joy, every molecule in me tingles and vibrates and tunes to the energy of my environment. It feels like an energy exchange moves freely between my corporeal and metaphysical form into the surroundings and I lose myself; I disappear. The items I wear during these activities act as a sort of skin containing my form, these items degrade, they become tattered and torn, until seams burst.
The leggings in this sculpture have witnessed thousands and thousands of minutes, of singularities and multiples until the inside leg seams have given way, and like the sinews and muscles and fat that make my corporeal form, the weavings come bursting forth, like rivulets of sweat merging into rivers, streaming across the landscape. The leggings are filled with thousands of interconnected hand-chained loops, all unique and irregular, hundreds and thousands of minutes of activity, of rhythms of time, filled with memories, free-zoning, free-forming, nomadic.
PERDURANCE series: Exploration of my interpretation of the concept of perdurance, where individuals are composed of temporal parts that are constantly changing dependant on time and the relationships with others. Durational works made in response to corporeal encounters running/walking/dwelling and documenting as a sensing being, they are extensions of the rythms of the body. The repetitive acts of chaining and knotting are a meditative process connecting past, present and future in iterative loops. In perdurance my form, my thoughts, my spirit is not fixed: Mmiri Mmiri / I am fluid. #sensuouspractice #foldswhorlssurfacesspaces
