My brother was a DJ on the house / warehouse / soul / funky house / acid house scene in the UK during the mid 80's to mid 90's. Lucky me, I got to travel with him helping to carry his record boxes. I would dance & sweat all night, drink water, fall asleep in a corner, wake up & start all over again. Mostly I just dancedanddancedanddanced & got swept away in the music & rhythms, the ease with which I could move my body and my mind, free my spirit. These are the colours of my youth, everything brighter than bright, distorted by smoke machines & later lasers. Swept away in ecstasy and whistles and horns and sweaty gyrating bodies.
PERDURANCE series: Exploration of my interpretation of the concept of perdurance, where individuals are composed of temporal parts that are constantly changing dependant on time and the relationships with others. Durational works made in response to corporeal encounters running/walking/dwelling and documenting as a sensing being, they are extensions of the rythms of the body. The repetitive acts of chaining and knotting are a meditative process connecting past, present and future in iterative loops. In perdurance my form, my thoughts, my spirit is not fixed: mmiri mmiri / I am fluid. #sensuouspractice
