SOLD  Acrylic and mica dust on canvas in black floater frame; w 162 x h 131 x d 6 cm; 2018

1st prize winner UK Artists Annual Exhibition 2018

Lines of flight, soaring above, dipping into, emerging from.... Moving the paint to move the eye, to fool the eye; the way elements of winter shape the earth, shape habitat and survival, shape form, shape my form with repetition and difference. Territories, point de fuite, leakages, voids and milieus; slow rhythms, speeded up, folded and expanded. Winter Water, mutable, full of potential; cleansing, blanketing, scouring, preserving; vapour, liquid, solid; these spaces in between, worlds within worlds to be explored, to get lost and found

TTLL 11: GYRES OF WEDDELL SEA

SOLD  Acrylic Mixed Media; w 80 x h 80 d 4 cm; 2017

Building layers of texture on canvas, thinking of time and movement of water, of earth; eddies and currents. the eternal spiral symbol. Reading about the Weddell Sea and the journey of water across expanses of our globe created initially on the surface by winds driving sea-ice and icebergs in a clockwise vortex, forming eddies 25-37 miles across; these vast gyres generate deep water currents that transport heat around the globe. Lots of paint and the yarn, then later adding uppermost textural layers.

SOLD OR NFS MADE PRE 2015

ELEMENTS OF WINTER 4

SOLD acrylic, moulding paste, glitter and recycled paper on canvas; unframed; w 100 x h 100 x d 4.5 cm; 2013

4th in an ongoing series investigating and expressing my experiences of winter; especially adventures in the landscape, being exposed to the elements and constant changing of the conditions whilst hiking, mountaineering and wild camping.  Powerful forces of nature - rock, water, ice and snow; British winter mountain gullies
In my next breath, danger and peril
I am fearful, clinging to the rock face
Desperate to find shelter from the stinging spindrift
Those crystal needles tattooing my face
An icy torrent gushing from a hidden fissure in the gully
Sweeping away my foothold on reality
